Fique onde está e então corra

Se eu só pudesse indicar DOIS livros de cada autor que eu amo, do John Boyne eu indicaria "O garoto no convés" e "Fique onde está e então corra". 

Juro que quando começaram a divulgar "Fique onde está...", eu fiquei empolgada, mas nem tanto. Dei um share básico no Face, marcando meu namorado (para ele ter a grande sacada de me comprar um quando desse na telha), e acabei ganhando o livro dele (uma coincidência e tanto, vocês não acham?).

Só uns três dias atrás, no entanto, é que tive a oportunidade de lê-lo. Eu o devorei. Fazia tempo que isso não acontecia, por mais que eu adore ler.

"Fique onde está e então corra" é uma prova de que livro grosso não é sinônimo de livro bom. Não me levem a mal, eu gostei muito do "O ladrão do tempo", por exemplo, mas "Fique onde está e então corra" está, para mim, numa categoria muito acima de "O ladrão do tempo". 

Sobre o que é o livro?

É a história de Alfie Summerfield, um garoto londrino que no início da história está comemorando seu aniversário de 05 anos. Bem no dia em que as batalhas da Primeira Grande Guerra começaram: 28 de julho de 1914. 

Seu pai, Georgie um leiteiro muito corajoso, resolve se alistar voluntariamente, a contragosto de sua esposa, Margie e sua mãe, vovó Summerfield. Depois que a guerra começou, as coisas mudaram bastante na rua Damley, onde Alfie vivia com seus pais. Uma delas é justamente que seu pai está ausente. Georgie sempre mandava cartas no começo, mas com o tempo elas foram se tornando menos frequentes, e quando chegavam, Margie as escondia do filho, que acabava encontrando debaixo do colchão, até que um dia não encontra mais nenhuma, e, como um trem que emite um ruído contínuo e insistente, levando embora entes queridos, ele só conseguia pensar "morreu-meu-pai-morreu-meu-pai-morreu-meu-pai-morreu...". E todos os dias ele abria o jornal na página de óbitos, para conferir se o número que deram ao seu pai, quando se alistou, aparecia.

Esperto, Alfie não se conforma com as respostas vagas da mãe, quando lhe perguntava onde estava seu pai e ouvia as palavras "ele está numa missão secreta para o governo, e por isso não pode escrever" (ou coisa do tipo, estou obviamente parafraseando). Assim, acaba indo atrás de informações, mas nunca as obtém de ninguém. Até que um dia, uma pista de onde seu pai poderia estar cai literalmente do céu. E então, ele vai atrás do seu pai.

Essa não é uma história sobre a Primeira Guerra Mundial. É uma história sobre o amor, acredite. 

Se eu não tinha ficado empolgada com o anúncio, posso dizer que chorei horrores lendo o livro. Alfie cativa o leitor desde o começo, com sua simplicidade e bondade. Há uma passagem no livro que me emocionou em especial, porque ele demonstra que para resgatar alguém é preciso, antes de mais nada resgatar memórias. E é com a simplicidade de Alfie que ele faz isso. Não reavivando uma memória complexa e cheia de detalhes, mas justamente aquela, do dia a dia, que as pessoas às vezes deixam passar despercebidas. Para mim, esse foi o grande trunfo do livro.

The climb

Okay. Now I've got to share this in here.
Always owner of the greatest suggestions, my babe showed me today a short documentary about creativity, which I watched to, though, through the perspective of what I'd call "the climbing to success". It explains why the "author" thinks Da Vinci was no genious - at least till he got into his highest spot of his long career.
I loved it.

Pequena Abelha

Era nosso aniversário de dois anos de namoro. Já tínhamos jantado e até recusado a sobremesa porque estávamos satisfeitos e esperávamos a conta. E então eu tive a brilhante ideia de contar sobre o livro "Pequena Abelha", de Chris Cleave, para meu namorado. Contei a história toda. Não toda detalhada, claro. Afinal, ainda que não tenham trazido a conta em questão de segundos, nunca há muito tempo para uma grande narração nesse intervalo. Mas contei sobre o assunto, o clímax e o final (sim, porque eu sei que ele nunca vai ler o livro mesmo). Prometo não contar o final aqui, entretanto. Porque espero, com sinceridade, que você o leia.

A história é sobre refugiados. Pequena Abelha é o nome de nossa protagonista. Não é seu nome verdadeiro, é um nome que criou para se proteger, para viver, não num anonimato, mas em meio à esperança de continuar viva. A trama, é claro, gira em torno especificamente de Pequena Abelha, uma nigeriana que foge de seu país rumo à Inglaterra, mas é detida por 2 anos assim que lá chega. 

Temos outra narradora no livro, Sarah, cuja história se cruza com à de Pequena Abelha num passado nunca por ambas esquecido. Talvez você ache melhor classificá-la como coprotagonista, ao lado de "Abelhinha", como também gostava de ser chamada. Mas, pessoalmente (e sou eu que lhes escrevo, de modo que posso escrever o que bem entender - muaha-ha-ha :P) eu não a consideraria assim, apesar de o livro todo revezar os relatos, ora de Abelhinha, ora de Sarah. É só porque, como disse inicialmente, a história é sobre refugiados (é como eu vi o livro, ao menos). A história de Abelhinha é uma entre outras tantas. É fictícia, mas é a personificação de muitas histórias verdadeiras, não tenho dúvidas. O próprio autor ao fim do livro diz que, embora o centro de detenção onde Pequena Abelha ficou por 2 anos não exista, ele é baseado em relatos de refugiados que realmente estiveram em centros como aquele. 

Eu não quero contar-lhes muito a respeito do livro. Achei ele simplesmente genial. Eu peguei-o para ler, confesso, sem esperar muita coisa dele, ainda mais porque é daqueles livros que enche de declarações de um tanto de críticos na contracapa e ainda não quer revelar nem sobre o que a história trata. E, cá entre nós, perdão pela vulgaridade, mas geralmente quando fazem isso, o produto é uma merda. Mas, se já faço muito em revelar sobre o que o livro irá trazer, não me atrevo a contar nada mais. Se ele quer se anunciar como o faz, cheio de mistérios, só acredite em mim: ele o faz por merecer! Ele pode!

Só tem mais uma coisinha que queria dividir aqui a respeito do livro. Em geral, ele é genial por uma série de motivos, a história é fascinante, os personagens vão criar reações em vocês, mas, tem um QUÊ a mais em tudo isso, que costuma ser MUITO importante para mim: ele é cheio de frases de efeito. Frases de efeito geniais. Quando eu pensava que tinha lido a melhor delas, logo me aparecia outra. Acho que não consegui eleger uma favorita. Mas se vocês conseguirem, por favor, compartilhem ela aqui comigo!

O Garoto no Convés

Esse é provavelmente um livro tão bom que dispensa entrar em detalhes e cometer o erro de soltar um spoiler. O livro conta uma versão ficcional, por John Boyne, de uma história verdadeira sobre o motim no Bounty - fragata do Rei Jorge da Inglaterra, sob o comando do Capitão Bligh. O protagonista, o jovem John Jacob Turnstile,  conquista logo a simpatia do leitor, mesmo no começo da aventura ser dado a uma vida de furto.

E é um furto que leva Turnstile a embarcar no Bounty. Como forma alternativa de cumprir a pena de encarceramento por 12 meses, o fidalgo francês, Matthieu Zéla, vítima do furto, propõe ao juiz que o jovem substitua ao criado do capitão do Bounty numa missão ao Otaheite (Taiti). Dessa aventura, com certeza o mestre Turnstile aprenderá muitas coisas para a vida, e a sua ida à ilha será crucial para mudar seu destino. 

Ao ler o livro, me afeiçoei por muitos personagens, me irritei com outros tantos, tudo na medida, creio, que Boyne quis passar. A história é grandiosa, emocionante, e, não sei se por não ter estado muito bem de saúde nos últimos dias de leitura, sinto até que sofri as dores dos personagens. Recomendo o livro, sem restrições. É uma história sobre lealdade, sonho, superação, e, oras, sobre a vida. Talvez, não como gostaríamos que ela fosse, mas, ainda que de certa forma ficcional, como ela realmente é.

I found out that even Douglas Adams used to use placeholders (and before he "taught"me that, I haven't got a clue there was a name for it). Well, I feel much better now.
But like he criticizes, most of the times I keep my placeholders, because I can't find any better word/expression/phrase. 

Take good care: MOVE

I'd like to initiate this year with a post about health. I must admit that I was shocked with all the numbers in the reports. 

Brazil costs $12 billions due to inactivity??? I haven't checked the formal data, but of course it makes sense to spend more (say, with health issues) if there's a problem related to less caring about physical activity. 

I'm happy for not being inside what is considered as "normal" nowadays. I could number the friends of mine that I could actually call physical active. Yes, most of them don't even go for a walk once a week. And no, of course spending the whole day shopping doesn't count as an activity, mostly when it turns out that you'll sit for a "coffee break" by so.

The thing that specially makes me happy is that, even it's true what is said in the website, "No one can fix this alone", it is also true that you can choose a beloved one that hasn't got the habit, and turn him into an active member of what we should consider as normal: just physically active! 

So, if you still don't get what I am talking about, take a little of your time and surf the Designed to Move to have a better clue. 

But, if you're too lazy for that, at least follow my advice: go for a walk (you can start with once a week, then increase it until it becomes something diary), run, play more soccer (and not only at weekends), swim, go skating, hiking, whatever, but MOVE. And try to recruit others with you. Make the world stronger.

Cosmic Tony é uma figura interessante. Criado por Nick Hornby em seu livro "A long way down", que narra  o encontro de 4 pessoas cujo único vínculo subjetivo se deu em razão de estarem no mesmo dia e no mesmo lugar (no topo de um prédio) com a intenção de se suicidarem.

Num encontro nada casual como este pode haver vários desfechos. É claro que, estendendo a conversa e ninguém pulando do prédio, é possível que aos poucos os personagens cheguem a conhecer um ao outro um pouco melhor. Tudo bem, é um "conhecimento" superficial. Mas ainda assim real. Afinal, quando se descobre que a pessoa tinha a intenção de se matar, já se sabe muita coisa a respeito dela.

Uma das personagens, bastante religiosa, numa dessas conversas estendidas, acaba sendo questionada por outro (e aqui eu estou parafraseando o diálogo dos dois com minhas palavras e minha vaga memória):

"Se você pudesse fazer um trato com Deus. Ele dissesse, ok, gostamos muito de você, mas gostaríamos que ficasse na Terra. O que podemos fazer para persuadi-la?"
Ao que ela responde:
"Deus? Se ele em Sua infinita sabedoria em Pessoa dissesse para eu ficar, não precisaria haver nenhum motivo. Eu simplesmente ficaria".
Ele, percebendo que não progrediria muito na conversa se mantivesse Deus metido na história, reformula sua pergunta:
"Ok, não Deus. Digamos, um presidente cósmico, ou primeiro ministro. Tony Blair, alguém que pudesse ajeitar as coisas. Você não pode fazer o que Tony Blair lhe disser, sem pedir nada em troca. E então, o que seria?"
"Ele pode curar Matty?"
"Não, ele só pode ajeitar as coisas".
"Eu gostaria de férias".
"Por Deus, você é uma barganha! Você escolheria viver pelo resto da sua vida por uma semana de férias na Flórida?"
"Faz 19 anos que não tiro férias".
Conversa vai, conversa vem, ele continua:
"Ok. Como seu empresário, eu vou pedir ao Cara que lhe dê férias por um ano. Talvez dois".
"Você não pode fazer isso!" - e então ela viu como estava levando todo aquele papo muito a sério e que um ano era demais.
"Confie em mim. Eu conheço o mercado. Cosmic Tony não vai achar que está pedindo muito. E quê mais?" 

Cosmic Tony. Quem não gostaria de se deparar com um desse tipo e ter as coisas resolvidas? (Levando em conta que Tony ainda estivesse no poder, rs).

E não digo assim para situações extremas como as dos personagens. Para pequenas coisas da vida mesmo.

Eu, sem sair dos limites da ética e da moral, pediria uma bolsa integral de estudos no melhor curso preparatório para concursos públicos. O resto eu faria por minha conta.
